Douglass B-18 "Bolo"
This is a picture of a Douglas B-18 "Bolo" bomber, which was one of the contenders for the Army's standard bomber at the beginning of World War II. This plane was eventually replaced by the more heavily armed, four-engine B-17. I am always amazed at how exposed the bombardier was in bombers of this era. Sitting out in the bubble on the nose of this plane must have been a pretty intense experience.
