The Formula 1 carnival came to town again in 2004. There is still some discussion about how long we are going to be able to keep the race here, but Bernie Ecclestone says is he is happy with the way things are going and he just signed an extension to keep the race here for at least a few more years.

The crowd isn't what it was for the first couple of years, but I guess that's because some of the novelty has worn off. At any rate, the race does bring a lot of people into town and everybody seems to have a good time and spend quite a bit of money. It's quite a culture shock both for the European visitors and for those of us that live here, but expanding your cultural horizons is almost always a good thing.

There are lots of pretty neat car club get togethers during the weeked, but my favorite event is when our local Miata club gets a police escorted tour of downtown the night before the race. It's something of a treat to have a policeman ahead of us with their lights on as oppsed to behind us.

The tours aren't as long as they have been in the past and I imagine that's because the officers have to give so many tours now. It's a really good time nonetheless.
